Faybe Bay's 100th Hub:: Hub 100:: My Top Hubs
58When I joined Hub Pages
I joined Hub Pages on January 28, 2010. What a roller coaster ride it has been! I feel as though I have lived more in the past 71/2 months than I have in my whole life.
I wish I'd kept a diary, and if you are new here, I would suggest you do that. It can be an unpublished hub for you to mark your ups and downs so that when you reach your 100th hub you will have it to look back on and refresh your memory. 100 hubs is a milestone I should have reached in half the time if I had not gotten caught up in some silly emotional situations.
One of my friends on Hub Pages, Qeylor, wrote a hub called "There's always another site." and it is that and Facebook that actually saved my Hub Pages career. I had just about given up.
I tell you this because, sometimes in our lives we feel like giving up, and it's at those times that you really are closest to your success. We just don't know it at the time.
Faceless Names, Nameless Faces
At hub pages we have so many friends whose avatars are not their faces, or whose names are changed to protect themselves from the scrutiny of the outsiders who do not understand what we are. We are writers, poets, artists and marketers. We are Gypsies, we are entrepreneurs, and not everyone can understand that.
Some of us use our real names, while others have screen names, and some even have multiple personalities! Some have screen names that are made from an old nickname, like mine, or that are representative of a beloved character from a book or a movie. Some are even named after their pets.
We are a motley crew with members spanning the globe, with languages and interpreters that make communication unbelievably difficult at times! There are corporate CEOs and housewives who never finished High School, there are chefs and "Microwave wizards" as my daughter likes to call herself, there are "psychos" and psychologists, yet we coexist here. We befriend each other and support each other here. It should come as no surprise then, which of my hubs are the best and which are the worst.
The Hubs
With over 1400 views since its publication on 2/14/2010:
Winter Olympics 2010 - Lone Olympic Athletes
is my most viewed hub. According to the hub metrics 50% of the views in the last 30 days were for the word "Ethiopian" which is sad really as the hub is actually about going out there and giving it your all, even if you're the only one running in the race. See, watching the opening ceremonies, I was amazed to find out just how many countries were represented by a single athlete rather than a team. With the sudden accidental death of one athlete before the games even got underway, it is even more astounding to imagine being the lone athlete representing your country. How can you hope to win? But these athletes aren't there for the medals (i'm sure they wouldn't turn one down though). That's what I learned, and that's what the hub is about.
My Second most viewed hub is Gypsy Rose Lee, Madame Rose and Baby June with 755 views to date. I attribute this to several things, one of which is the death of "Baby June" actress June Havoc within weeks of my hub being published. The only living relative of Gypsy Rose Lee would now be her son. With Sigourney Weaver slated to play Gypsy Rose Lee in an upcoming HBO movie, this hub will get hotter. I just don't have a date yet on the release of the HBO movie.
Best Hubs
Published 4 months ago with 421 views is Paralyzed by Anxiety, Has This ever Happened to You?
While I did not expect it to repeatedly return to the top, this hub is consistently rising back up. Apparently there are a lot of people who are searching paralysis with a whopping 27% of my views coming from that single word. Who knew my disorder could bring me traffic. Now I know that this only boils down to 100 views per month on this hub, which is not exactly correct and does not constitute a really hot hub. The point is that in these three hubs we find a trend.
Ethiopians, paralysis and death. No that's not it really. People want to read about what is currently an issue to them. The reason the Winter Olympics hub had a resurgence last month is because of the Youth Olympics in Singapore, where some Ethiopian athletes did well.
Anxiety is an ever increasing problem with the current state of the economy and the world, and of course the death of someone whom you've written about will always make for more views. What I see though is a trend toward desperation.
People need to know they are not alone in their desperation, or in their death. That June Havoc should be written about and remembered is a comfort to a long time fan, that I have paralyzing anxiety is a comfort to someone experiencing it.
That there are places in the world where people can become equal and compete without race, color, creed or religion being the deciding factor, nor who has the bigger guns, nor whose country has the most money, nor whose clothes have the designer label... That's a comfort.
Worst ever hubs
Naturally my worst are my first. Ironically they were the ones I thought had merit. How I was going to help people! Quick cash Income and How to Feed your family in this Economy. They should have gone through the roof, if that's what people were looking for, and Put Away the Papers, Finding Work again... Well, these scrape the bottom of the barrel for views.
Yes of course I was new, and I didn't know that my brilliant ideas were tried and used up by millions before me. What exactly could it be that people really want? What would draw them like flies to honey? What is more important than a job, quick cash, and feeding your family?
With 119,000,000 on Google, How to become Famous is one of the top searches. So writing about famous people should be a no-brainer. The other with 96,000,000 is how to kiss, and with 507,000,000 How to Get a Girl To Like you...
So, I have been writing about the wrong things. I know that's funny, but so have you!
My truly remarkable success (for me) with Steve Carlson, The Most Beautiful Music I Never Heard published 8 weeks ago is what opened my eyes. This hub has 465 hits and 39 comments. While that is not the highest, that is in 8 weeks and many of those were in the first days after publication. More importantly, most of the traffic is organic, and that's a big start in the right direction.
So, who is Steve Carlson? Maybe you should read the hub and find out. He has a huge fan base is all I can say, and if you've ever watched a television show, or a movie, there's a chance he had something to do with it. He is in the background where it's unlikely that he'll be noticed. Usually on stage, playing his guitar.
Final Words
For my 100th hub, I must say it has been a long strange trip and I hope the road continues to stretch out before me. I never knew that the point was to become famous, but maybe that's it. The most successful people in the world are those who give people what they want, and apparently what people want is to be entertained, and to believe for one small moment that if they try hard enough one day they will be the entertainer

I joined Hubpages only yesterday. But already today I have your advise for new people here:) Thank you for your advise Feybe Bay and congratulate - 100 hubs!!!
Faybe-
I must say that I have kept up with you since day one. You joined about two weeks after I had and you bopped in and befriended so many of us hubbers and helped out so many more of us newer hubbers. You are a wonderful lady, friend, and mama. You have been there for me more times than I can count and have understood my every thought as if they were your own. I am truly glad you and I are friends and I am so proud of your accomplishments here on HP. I hope to pick up my hubbing again soon and be back on the roll I was on so many months ago.
Congratulations girl, you deserve it!!! Love you.
Hey Faye, what's this I hear about you leaving HubPages? LOL! I didn't think you had in you to leave, because deep down inside you are not a quitter. This I knew from our chats in the forums and from comments left on each other's hubs. You've managed to make your 100th Hub and you deserve all the credit, so with that said- CONGRATULATIONS! It could happen to a more wonderful, sweet and caring lady. And, I use the term "lady" with the utmost respect. Glad to see you'll continue to haunt HubPages. :) Glad to be your friend and always a pleasure. :)
That is a great achievement, 100 hubs Congratulations Faybe. I made a few mistakes writing about what I thought readers would be interested in too at the beginning on HubPages.
After a big learning curve I am finally getting the traffic.
Dear Faybe ~ Why I liked this hub? Because I smiled all the way through. With a flare for words, writing down ideas that we can imagine thinking ourselves, with a splash of the best videos and songs, taking time to breakdown and analyze your progress, take a step back to review where you have been and where you plan to go; I will be visiting more of your hubs as time permits. Keep smiling and writing! Hugs, Debby [hubhop ~ ThumbsUp]
Way to go! You should be so proud. You Rock!
Congrats on your 100th... can't wait until number 200!!
I hear recurring themes from those who last on hub pages to write 100 hubs, Your experience falls within the boundaries of most experiences and i know you have grown as a writer due to the change in your style within your hubs. Knowing how to tame the hub pages tiger takes time, something this instant society will not accept.
Congratulations! Well done and here's to 100 more.
aww man!! 100 hubs! way to go Faybe, this one is great. Isnt it funny, the things you think are just you, being upset, are the most helpful words you can write sometimes? Im so happy to still see you here, what long stange trip is right.
You're a wonder, Faybe! I may be 70 behind, but you better watch out!! :)
Just kidding, Hon, this is such a grand accomplishment-congratulations!
Congrats on 100 hubs. You have done well in 7 months. Good reading, too. I enjoy your writing, thanks.

That is quite the accoumplishment! I have to say, I am a ways from that:) I do believe you just challenged a great many hubbers to follow suit! Congratulations:)
Congratulations Faybe Bay..100 Hubs is certainly a landmark for anyone to achieve and you have done it. I just recently met you on Facebook and seeing you leave a comment here and there on some of my hubs.
I look forward to reading more of yours. You are definitely an inspiration to many of us here and I like your honesty and shoot from the hip approach to hubbing. You tell it like it is and from your heart.
We need more like you on the hubs. Good luck with the next 100 hubs you are appreciated here. Peace and hugs
Faybe - sounds like you've been doing pretty well here. And it sounds as if you are using Google Analytics, which I have yet to sign up for. Some of my older, stinky hubs, I've gone back and attempted to improve. It can be done! Congratulations on your 100th hub!
