Meat Loaf::the Man, Not the Recipe::a Tribute
70
Meat Loaf is never out of style...
According to Wikipedia... He is noted for the Bat Out of Hell album trilogy consisting of Bat Out of Hell, Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell andBat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose. Bat Out of Hell has sold more than 40 million copies. After more than 30 years, it still sells an estimated 200,000 copies annually, and stayed on the charts for over nine years.
My first encounter with Meat Loaf's music was in the '70's when Bat Out of Hell was released. I remember hearing Paradise by the Dashboard Light on the radio, and how many parents were in an uproar that the song got airplay! Some stations just ran a shortened (censored) version. It was one of those situations where, if you wanted to listen to this music, you'd better not let your parents hear it.
Many kids now don't have that problem, but back then, we'd listen for our parents to come home, and quickly change the station, or put on a different album. This was what head phones were for, seriously!
It wasn't just Meat Loaf, we got in trouble if we listened to George Carlin, Kiss, or Cheech and Chong. Your really cool friends, or your older brother's friends would have the album, and a car! They'd bring over the record, and of course they got away with it, because your parents would say "Oh Dave, I guess you didn't know the kids aren't allowed to listen to them!" Then "You kids know better, go to your room!"
Who could ever forget...
Through the Years
Michael Lee Aday aka Meat Loaf or Meat Loaf Aday, was born Marvin Lee Aday, in September of 1947, although various sources give the date between 1946 and 1951 with an alternate date of January 22nd.

My favorite has always been Meat Loaf's own videos, and of course his part in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. My memories are of the interviews he did back in the 70s and 80s. My favorite was that he saw Bat Out of Hell as a sort of "Rock and Roll Opera version of Peter Pan". I never forgot that and find it now was "...The album developed from a musical, Neverland, a sci-fi update of Peter Pan, which Steinman wrote for a workshop in 1974, and performed at the Kennedy Center Music Theatre Lab in 1977." (ref wikipedia Bat Out of Hell)
Over the years of my life moving from Ohio to Florida and making whole new sets of friends, Meat Loaf was a reminder of the simpler life of my youth, and a bit of nostalgia to share with my new friends as we danced the night away at E.R. Bradley's Saloon in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Sometimes, at a private party, we would sing and dance to the whole set, Bat Out of Hell followed by Back into Hell. I would remember when I wasn't even allowed to say the word Hell, much less think and feel the things these songs made us feel.
Who could ever forget the feeling of "Life is a Lemon (and I want my Money Back)" I know I wanted my money back at times, and it was Meat Loaf that allowed me to voice my frustrations.

Meat Loaf is Back Out On Tour!
Returning to the limelight with a new album "Hang Cool Teddy Bear" and a world tour is the one and only Meat Loaf. You can find his own web site below, where you can order tickets to the shows, purchase his albums, and read what the man himself has to say about his new Rock Show, apparently the "flashing forward" of a soldiers life as it might have been, if he wasn't about to die.
I've placed these videos here to show this new generation what a music video used to be, back when we weren't allowed to listen to songs about sex and drugs and rock and roll, but we did anyway, even if it meant we might go to Hell for it.
Welcome Back Meat Loaf, it's been a long three years since the last album, and a long 33 years since I first heard the artist that changed the music video into a mini-movie. The work of Meat Loaf is an art unto itself.
Still got It!

Nice tribute to an old favorite.
I have only heard his first two albums, but enjoyed them both greatly. I had no idea there was a third one out -- let alone a fourth! When i was in college I heard that he had died... and never thought to check out. I am so glad to know it was a false rumor!!!
Would Rocky Horror be the same without Meatloaf? I think not! What a brilliant and quirky man. Takes me back to my military days; Meatloaf & Queen, staples in those days. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.
K9
Rocky Horror, with Meat Loaf driving a motorcycle out of the walk-in freezer! Remember that? This hub brought it all back. I really liked the guy's voice. I heard or read once, that he drank maybe four-five beers, right before a show, because it made him sweat visibly under the lights, and his audience wanted to see him sweat.
...either way your hubs are simply divine and fantastic my dear friend with the wonderful profile photo - but the recipe for meatloaf would be appreciated too!
Yes the 'Meatlof' era (the mid to late 70's) brought back some memories - but the question is - were we both born yet - we certainly don't look it - and you just keep me feelin' younger everyday - I'm going in reverse!
I seem to remember that his music was great for scarring off crows, or was it attracting crows? Can't remember, but I was a great fan when I was younger. He looked great in the Rock Horror Picture Show Film...
Hey Faye, I was on this hub the other day when you published, but forgot to leave a comment. I've only been a fan of a few songs of his, but his career has lasted a very long time, which means he did something right. A very nice tribute to him. Thank you for sharing. :)
Love it and I did use hik in my hub MY Mother Meatloaf Recipe or somethin like that. Hahahaha!
Really, I love his music.
Oh, I just checked it out and I took the video out because You tube took the song off their site.
Loved this hub! I've been a fan of Meatloaf since the 70's, too...:)
He was a guest star on "Ghost Hunters" not too long ago, and he was great--he was having a blast, and acted like a kid in a candy store, lol...
Thanks for the videos, too--who could not like Paradise By the Dashboard Light??? haha
I haven't been to a concert since the early 90's, but his is one I'd love to see!
