Steve Carlson:: The Most beautiful Music I Never Heard
78
Steve Carlson, an amazing find...
For those of you who already know who he is, how could you keep this to yourself? I can't believe all these years of listening to the radio in the car, I had no idea who Steve Carlson was or what he sounded like, or even that he existed, until last week.
I discovered so much in a week with just the click of the mouse, an accidental click at that.
I am a big Leverage fan, but I didn't know Christian Kane was a musician until a little over a week ago. Here's what happened, I saw a 30 second or so clip on YouTube of Christian Kane singing a few bars of "The Dance" which looked like karaoke.
I had run across a movie with Christian Kane in it, which led me to ask what else he'd done, which lead me to the song clip, which lead me to Steve Carlson... They have a band together.
So Here's Steve Carlson:
This one touched me so deeply.
How did I miss this?
I have been working too much to know I wasn't really living, ya know? I have spent the last 20 years working 12 hour days, sometimes even 7 days a week. The last five years have been a roller coaster ride, where I didn't get to watch TV unless it was on demand, so I can see why I would miss out on 20 years worth of actors...
I listen to the radio every day, and not just one station, I listen to different types of music... How did I miss this?
With that in mind I decided that if I had missed out on Christian Kane and Steve Carlson, then perhaps you have too. More than this, what else have we missed out on? And why?
Of course, you know, this investigative reporter will find those answers, oh yes...
Please have a listen
Maybe The Clue is in The Song
We are all islands aren't we. We stick with our friends but mostly we feel as though we are out here alone. Even in a crowd we are alone. We have our job, our family, our life, and we are so careful not to get close to anyone. It's so easy to stay away from the neighbors, all the doors and blinds are closed.
Time was that when you walked down the street in any given neighborhood there would be people in their yards and driveways, kids playing in the street. There would be cars with the windows down, or the top down, sometimes sitting in the middle of the road talking window to window, with the stereo on. This was before people got totally obnoxious with PA speakers and boosters in their trunks so that the car vibrates down the street rather than actually running on gasoline.
In the old days you'd hear music everywhere you went, and say "Hey, who is that?" without fear, and with pride their fans would tell you.
Before Twitter and Facebook and Myspace, people used to come over to your house with a new CD and say "Wait til you hear this!" They would call you on the phone and ask if you'd heard this new song.
See, in the music business, or any business really, it's all about the advertising.
Promotion is key, and the best kind of promotion is word of mouth. You can have your Facebook page, or Myspace or Twitter, but without people sharing it with others, you have nothing.
People must be afraid of looking spammy or something. If it's great then share it, retweet it! Truly you must know that if you do not promote your favorite bands or singers or TV shows, if you don't tell your friends about your favorite restaurants then they will go out of business...

So, here we are
Usually I try to apply everything I do here to help the Hub writer as well. Here's the latest news... If you do nothing to promote others then you will take a very long time in getting promoted yourself.
Christian Kane and Steve Carlson are a team. They promote each other. I only learned about Steve because he backs up Christian Kane. Steve Carlson has his own band and his own songs, and when Christian Kane performs one of Steve's songs he gives the man credit on stage.
One of our up and coming Hubbers here, Edweirdo, proved that by going above and beyond the call of duty to help promote a group during the 60 day challenge started by Sunforged, the whole group benefits. He made his first adsense payout with Hub Pages because of his participation. I messed up and missed out, but that's not what is important. What is important is that you know the secret of your success in any place in life is completely dependent on the success of others.
Hear this: You define your own success, but no matter what your definition of success is, you will never achieve it alone. You must choose to help others achieve their success, you must choose to allow others to help you achieve your success.
Success is never going to be something you can buy on the internet in a package with costs between $1.00 trial and $2500.00 for the complete fool proof system. Success is something you acquire as you help someone else achieve it.
Think about that time you got help with your science project (or refused help out of pride). The proof of success is not when you get there, it's the trip you take to get there and the people along the way.
Please do your part to promote Steve Carlson.
Twitter account: Stevie Carlson follow him and retweet.
Steve Carlson's YouTube channel Smokinglion, ha ha, I always liked lions. Subscribe, and surprise him. It's been neglected for a few months but he seems to have been quite busy traveling and putting on shows.
Like him on Facebook: Steve Carlson Music While you're there you can click on the myspace link on his info page. I can't go on Myspace, don't remember my password etc. LOL
Check out his web site: www.stevecarlson.com
Steve Carlson and partner Darren Sher have also started their own production company to help other artists along the way. This guy is just so busy...
The production company is called The Sound Parlor.
You don't have to tell him I sent you. I just can't believe I missed all this great music for so long. Maybe you could do me a favor, and when you find someone really great, you could write about them or write to me so that I can check them out, and then I can write about them too.
I mean, good music is like salt, Life has no flavor without it. For more songs and videos, you can check out my Steve Carlson playlist on YouTube

Nice flowing music. First time I have heard about him. Thanks.
Long time fan of Steve Carlson. The problem with getting him on the radio is that he doesn't fit into a classic genre- Every song is so unique in style, lyrics, and emotion that it's impossible to put him in a box.
Real shame- The man is amazing!
Your right I remember those days too, where you would sit around and listen to some new music, having conversation and some cold soda pop:) He does have a nice sound about him. I like how mellow his music is...and how you can hear his words. Great Share!
Glad you finally found him and his music, thank you for helping to promote him. It would be great if you could help promote him and Rosalee next month as their song 'I Believe' is entered in the Hossey Music award show and we will need votes everyday for a month.
Thanks
I had no idea you didn't know about the power of Steve :D
He's an amazing man and incredible musician. I'm glad you happen to stumble onto him and his music
A great musician... and a terrific post!!!
Thanks for the heads up. He is wonderful and so is your hub. Thumbs up!
I had missed him also and I love this voice. Great hub and I think I will buy some of his music as I love easy going music like this. Thanks for introducing him to us.
I too found Steve through being a fan of Christian's. And honestly, there's never been another singer/songwriter who has touched my heart as much as Steve.
I would love it if he had more exposure. I rec his music to people all the time and it's wonderful to see other people enjoying it as well.
For anyone interested, all of Steve's CDs are available at www.cdbaby.com and every one of them is well worth the money.
I never heard of him before. Thanks for the introduction.
Very nice. I hadn't heard of him, either :)
This is the first i have heard of him. He certainly can pick that guitar. He has a wonderful voice. Thanks for bringing him to my attention.
I'm another long time fan. Steve is one of the most talented musicians out there. He's not just a wonderful voice, he also has phenomenal songwriting skills.(Never mind the several instruments he plays as well.) I hope you get to meet him some day. He's a great guy and always tries to take time with his fans. Thanks for spreading the love!
Been a fan of Steves for about 2 years now. So glad you found your way to him Faybe. His gravelly voice and awesome guitar skills are a match made in heaven. Fantastic article you wrote on him as well. Well done! Great read :)
Great article on a great man! Glad you also checked out "I Believe" (his song with Rosalee). It has single potential! I'm not sure where to look to get the best info on Rosalee (or Steve even) but they are both on twitter: @steviecarlson & @_rosalee_ Also, Steve's mother was the one who turned me to your article - she loved it!! FYI-his video of "Blue Christmas" on tube in great!
I've been a fan of his for awhile now. I discovered him through Jensen Ackles. Another singer I found enjoyable is Jason Manns who is also buddies with Steve and Chris. You should check him out too if you haven't already.

He's also on twitter.
Loved the article and am honored you used my video of Pinata Novia.
Thank you for your great article! I learned of Steve when I was introduced to Christian Kane's music. I am historically not a fan of the country genre so I was lured to Steve's music VERY easily.
It is a fixture on my iPod ..and in my car... and in my heart. He writes with such feeling.
I would like to echo what Aimsame said - try to get to show in person. Steve is so genuine with his fans.
I was delighted to read that you are wanting to do a piece on Jason. I love Jason! He is probably my favorite Kane band member! I can't wait to read it.
I have never been to your site before - but will check back now regularly.
Hey, what I great article! Thanks, I already am a big fan of Steve, glad that you discovered him, too ;-) Check out his video for fun called "Best I ever had", ya'll die laughin after watching this :-D here's the link: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/6080017af5/the-be
Stumbled on this by accident...seems there's a lot of that going on, isn't there? ha! Found Steve hot on finding Chris' talent about six--seven years ago? Time has flown. Chris is finally *fingers crossed* getting the chance to let the world hear him and his amazingly different voice and music...Steve deserves the same. I'm just not sure he wants that, though I can't be sure, he's just a different creature. I've recommended his music and songs for many different occasions, literally from a wedding to a funeral. He (well, the two of them really) make me laugh, cry, dance, reflect, breathe, sigh, dream...I think it's simply amazing you have found his magic and decided to help promote him! Welcome to the Carlson craziness! :O)
I came across Steve through Supernatural con videos. Once I heard a few of his songs I started to listen to some albums. First song that grabed my complete attention was Rocking chair. I do love his music for various reasons. First of all you can't label it. There is rock, country blues and sometimes a hint of soul. Then there is of course his voice that is just getting under my skin. And his lyrics. One of my favourite songs at the moment is: Take time to shine from the days behind album. Such a wonderful motivational song. Here is an idea for you faybe bay. Maybe your brother could perfom that song with a youth choir.
I have yet to see Steve live. But since I live in Germany this just may stay a dream.
